The College of Optometrists’ Research Scholarships have returned for 2022, including a new one-off funding opportunity at postdoctoral level.

Part-funded by donations from College members, the Postdoctoral Research Award provides an optometrist at postdoctoral level with the opportunity to be principal investigator on a research project in the area of swollen optic nerves and referral thresholds.

Michael Bowen, Director of Research at The College of Optometrists, says: “The College’s Scholarships represent an important aspect of the College’s engagement with research, and it’s great to see their return after a brief break during the pandemic. This year we’re proud to announce that, with the generous support of College members, we are once again able to offer a Postdoctoral Research Award. The area of research for this Scholarship was voted for by members and so we’re excited to share the valuable outputs the successful project will produce.”

This new Scholarship opportunity accompanies the College’s existing funding grants which have helped develop research within the profession since the College began in 1980. Scholarships available for application this year include:

  • Research Fellowship
  • Clinical Research Fellowship
  • Postgraduate Scholarship
  • Postdoctoral Research Award

Applications close 5pm, Tuesday 1 March 2022.
